All 700 Sanskrit verses rendered into English rhymes by the Author of India's First Rhyme Book based on Bhagavad Gita- (India Book of Records- Dec 2014)

The original Bhagavad Gita text is written in Sanskrit and the most accurate way of understanding the text is by first learning Sanskrit and then by slowly decoding and deciphering the ancient scripture in its contextual, philological and metaphysical meanings. I have always felt a strong bond of connection with this scripture and it is this bond that encouraged me to attempt in translating the rhythm of the 700 shlokas into poetic English
For reference I have mainly used Sri Aurobindo’s Essays on the Gita, The Gita Press- Gorakhpur Edition and the translations and commentaries on The Gita by the four authorized saints of the Vaishnava Traditions- Sri Vishnuswami, Sri Madhavacharya, Sri Keshava Kashmiri and Sri Ramanuja.

"The Bhagavad Gita is essentially a spiritual book and not a religious text. It is universal in its perspective and all 18 chapters emphasize the need for action for the Lokasangraha- betterment of all peoples of the world.
It speaks not about a material ascetism but instead speaks about embracing every sphere of karma to lead a Divine life on earth.
Throughout the text we hear Arjuna- the chosen one- ask the questions that arise in almost every human heart.
And we also hear the words of Krishna –the manifesting god head-patiently answering all his queries on God, man, life, death, living and being with a love that is truly Divine.
The Gita is integral in all its principles, which can be imbibed by all sections of the society.
It teaches a sage to become a better sage, a warrior to become a better warrior, a businessman to become a better businessman, a politician to become a better politician, a teacher to become a better teacher and a student to become a better student."

I have re-written the Shlokas- which are basically couplets in Sanskrit language into quatrains in simple English.
The numbers at the end of the four line verses are according to the numbers written in the original Sanskrit text. No alterations have been made in the numberings and also the verses have not been grouped purposefully so that each verse may be studied and compared individually. Though Krishna and Arjuna have been glorified by a number of different names in throughout the Bhagavad Gita, I have chosen to maintain homogeneity in their names throughout my rhythmic verses.

For the younger generation that does not have much free time, the verses have been grouped as per the subjects and the groupings are mentioned at the beginning of every Canto.

For those well versed in the Devanagari script –the original Shlokas in Sanskrit language have been provided in this book for their reference and comparison. For those who are unaware of the Devanagari script, an English transliteration has been provided. The Internationational Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration (ISAT) scheme of transliteration is provided at the end of the book so that the transliteration may be read out in a phonetically accurate manner.

Also for the readers who are not very familiar with the Sanskrit terms, a glossary of important Sanskrit terms and characters mentioned in the English verses has been provided.

The book appeals to me emotionally and logically as wise words of poetry.
By James R C Baker
Sushrut A. Badhe, the author, is a student and manufacturer of Ayurvedic medicines and a published poet. His literary works are inspired by the day-to-day experiences of the those striving selflessly for the improvement of our world. He and I embrace the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.

In this book on one of the greatest epics of India, Voice of Krishna: Bhagawad Gita (in rhymes): Book I : Cantos I-V (Secrets of the Self 1), Badhe translates the 700 shlokas (couplets) into poetic English. The couplets appear in quatrains that are grouped by subject, each with an introduction and conclusion.

The shlokas appear in English verses with the Sanskrit text and Devanagari script. Further reference is the glossary of important characters and Sanskrit terms and International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration (I.A.S.T.) tables.

The story begins with a battle. When the divine Krishna speaks, the warrior Arjuna is overwhelmed and confesses his grief to Sri Krishna. Krishna takes the grieving Arjuna by the hand and assuages his suffering: The way is open for those who decide to turn to the divine, spirit, God and live in unity.

My favorite section is in Canto XI. God is at the center of all things seen and unseen. Sri Krishna speaks,
“O Arjuna, Behold for I will display to you'
My hundred thousand forms shall stand in your view
All Divine in their multitudinous shapes, hues and kind In all their dimensions that are otherwise beyond the mind
Witness today, O Arjuna-the universe complete
With all the mobile and immobile forms replete
Observe them to be united but yet a part of Me
And also glimpse everything else that you wish to see."

The book appeals to me emotionally and logically as wise words of poetry: "Our souls can climb into the shining planes and the God-lover, the God-knower, the God-doer who can live in God and for God and do for Him joyfully whatever be the work in the world, made God-like he would enjoy the supreme spiritual consciousness, here on earth."

‘I meditate upon the gnosis of the Supermind borne through Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. May their light inspire my intellect.'
By Grady Harp
New Indian author Sushrut A. Badhe is very young, and very refreshing! Though he completed studies in Mechanical Engineering from Pondicherry, India only three years ago he has discovered his path through his exposure to Ayurvedic Health concepts and has become the CEO at KVM Research labs, a researcher at Midam Charitable Trust, implementing Vedic Chants Intervention Programs for children with autism. As a reminder to readers, Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing that has its origins in the Vedic culture of India. The reason this is important introductory information for the reader of Bahde's book of poems THE RHYTHM OF KRISHNA and now for his new translation of the Bhagwat Gita will become evident.

As a sincerely touching opening Sushrut offers ‘The Message of the Gita’: ‘The shlokas of the Bhagavad Gita are aimed at attaining a realization that will lead to the conscious evolution of an individual, a society, a nation and the world at large. The Bhagavad Gita is essentially a spiritual book and not a religious text. It is universal in its perspective and all 18 chapters emphasize the need for action for the Lokasangraha- betterment of all peoples of the world. It speaks not about a material asceticism but instead speaks about embracing every sphere of karma to lead a Divine life on earth. It teaches a sage to become a better sage, a warrior to become a better warrior, a businessman to become a better businessman, a politician to become a better politician, a teacher to become a better teacher and a student to become a better student.’ by Sri Madhusudan R. Damle. Sushrut Badhe takes on the Bhagavad Gita translated into rhythmic English verses from original Sanskrit language and accompanies these with exquisite drawings.

In his previous book he presented the first five Cantos and repeats those here. These are followed by Canto VI through Canto XVIII. As Susrut explains, ‘For those well versed in the Devanagari script –the original Shlokas in Sanskrit language have been provided in this book for their reference and comparison. For those who are unaware of the Devanagari script, an English transliteration has been provided. The International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration (ISAT) scheme of transliteration is provided at the end of the book so that the transliteration may be read out in a phonetically accurate manner.’

In addition to the opportunity to have the Bhagwat Gita made available to us, Sushrut retains his modesty in declaring that this is only his translation of the great book and it is that sensitivity that makes reading his translations all the more graceful. His scholarship is evident in his providing a glossary of term, immensely helpful to the new reader. And he shares with us that he also writes articles in Sri Aurobindo’s Action - the journal of India’s Resurgence which was set up in 1970 by The Mother of Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry. The author wishes to reproduce the message that The Mother had shared on the 24th April 1972 for Sri Aurobindo’s Action: “India shall take her true place in the world only when she will become integrally the messenger of Divine Life” – The Mother.

Once again we are in Sushrut's debt for his generosity of spirit. This is a gentle translation full of rich meaning. Grady Harp, July 15
